Hoppa, the community transport service, has been marking its fifteenth anniversary by presenting replica models of its familiar and much-loved buses to supporters who have helped it to grow into a successful organisation.
Councillor Pat Frost, former Mayor of Farnham and successful Farnham businesswoman, and Iain Lynch the current Town Clerk for Farnham were recent recipients of the awards.
Steve Forward, hoppa’s General Manager, presented the awards and said: “We greatly value the relationships we have with our stakeholders and the wider community but there are some individuals who really stand out in the way they have supported us – they have personally put themselves out time and time again to make hoppa the best it can be for our customers. We are grateful to Iain and Pat and many other individuals for their friendship, guidance and help over the years.”
“I’m proud to call myself a friend of hoppa,” said Councillor Pat Frost when she received her model. Thanking Steve, she said: “It has been a pleasure to work with hoppa and is a tremendous pride and honour to receive this beautiful award.”
Iain Lynch has had links with hoppa since its early days, when he had responsibility for community transport in his former role at Waverley Borough Council, and more recently at Farnham Town Council. “I was as impressed in my time at Waverley as I am now as Town Clerk in Farnham with the passion and commitment of hoppa’s trustees, staff and management. I believe hoppa makes a vital contribution to the community and economy and this is one of the many reasons Farnham Town Council was so committed to helping hoppa raise the £30,000 it needed for a new bus in Farnham in 2017.”
Farnham Town Council, along with other local councils, has provided funding for hoppa for many years and is a long-term supporter of the organisation.
Hoppa plans to present a number of limited edition awards to supporters across Waverley. Jeremy Hunt MP; David Munro, Surrey’s Police and Crime Commissioner and former Surrey and Waverley councillor; officers from Surrey County Council and Waverley Borough Council; current and past hoppa Trustees and longstanding hoppa employees have also received the models as thanks for their individual involvement with hoppa over the years.
Hoppa provides low-cost fully accessible transport in and around Farnham, Cranleigh, Godalming and Haslemere. It provides scheduled services to hospitals and popular shopping locations and door to door services. Its customers say that without it they risk isolation and losing their independence.
